The professional golfer and designer of golf courses José María Olazábal has come to La Sella Golf to supervise the landscaping project of the extension of the La Sella golf course in Denia (Alicante) which with 27 holes is the largest on the Costa Blanca.
The mentioned project, developed by the local biologists Jaume Soler and Víctor Montiel, especially emphasizes the use of Mediterranean species which easily grow and adapt to the area contributing to elevate the environmental respect for the area where La Sella Golf is located to its highest level, an area of important ecological value bordering the natural park Montgó with a special biodiversity.
The utmost and scrupulous respect for the environment has been one of the priorities when planning and carrying out this extension of La Sella under the responsability of José María Olazábal. Not in vain, La Sella Golf has obtained a Statement of Common Interest, the corresponding licenses of the Regional Ministries of Envirionment, Territory, Transport, Culture, the ISO 14001 accreditation and even a favourable report of the Administration of Spaces of the European Community. Furthermore, it´s watered with recycled wastewater.
Designed as the original 18 holes by José María Olazábal the extensión by 9 holes is characterized by being very different from the original ones which the Basque champion designed in 1990. The main novelty are the lakes, in total four, three of them are connected through rias. There are 3 pairs of 3, 3 pairs of 4 and 3 pairs of 5, all of them very varied and enjoyable. Furthermore, due to its location adyacent to the border of the Natural Park Montgó there is not even a single house next to the course. “A fact which only distinguishes the golf course “El Saler”, informs Carlos García, the managing director of La Sella Golf which installations count as well with the renowned five star hotel Denia Marriott & Spa.
La Sella Golf in Denia has become a regular venue for big amateur and professional tournaments, among them the Spanish Championship of the Female Golfers and the European Ladies Cup.
