Opening of the 9 new holes

La Sella is the only course in the Valencian Community together with the golf club Escorpión in Bétera which has 27 holes.
La Sella Golf in Denia, venue for important tournaments for professionals and amateurs has now its new 9 holes, designed by the prestigious professional golfplayer José María Olazábal. The extensión is playable since the past 2nd of January – pre-booking is required initially – and makes the La Sella golf course with 27 holes a leader in the Valencian Community and nationalwide.
Designed as the original 18 holes by José María Olazábal the extensión by 9 holes is characterized by being very different from the original holes which the Basque champion designed in 1990. The main novelty are the lakes, in total four, three of them are connected through rias. There are 3 pairs of 3, 3 pairs of 4 and 3 pairs of 5, all of them very varied and enjoyable. Furthermore, due to its location adyacent to the border of the Natural Park Montgó there is not even a single house next to the course. “A fact which only distinguishes the golf course “El Saler”, informs Carlos García, the managing director of La Sella Golf which installations count as well with the renowned five star hotel Denia Marriott & Spa.
José María Olazábal already supervised the construction of the first 18 holes of La Sella in 1990 which became his first experience as designer. At the age of only 22 years this golfplayer from San Sebastián contacted Pepe Bañó, owner of La Sella, with the aim to build a course next to the Natural Park Montgó.
Accompanied by José Luis Bastarreche, arquitect of the project of extensión, José María Olazábal on various occasions supervised in situ the building site carried out by Madrileña de Riegos.
One of the priorities of the extensión of La Sella Golf was the respect for the environment which has been observed to the maximum.
La Sella Golf counts with a Common Statement of Interest, all relevant licenses of the Departments of Environment, Territory, Transports, Culture, the certification ISO 14001 and even a report in favour of the Administration of Spaces of the European Community. Furthermore, it is watered with recycled wastewater.
By this extensión La Sella Golf increases its tee-times by 40% per year.
